Our portfolios commonly include a balance of various types of investments. Mutual funds are collections of different types of stocks and investments. Similar to mutual funds, Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) group multiple assets into a single investment but have more flexibility than Mutual Funds and more diversification than common stocks. Common stocks are forms of corporate equity ownership. Advantages of common stocks include the possibility of higher rates of return, but they are also higher risk because they have no guaranteed return. Lastly, an option is the right to acquire stocks, but without the obligation, at an agreed upon price or date.
